On a magnificent day at Landy Field 400 Leopoldians were greeted with stunning conditions perfect for setting the track alight. In what has been described as the best ever House Athletics Sports children found themselves sprint, jumping and throwing themselves into 8 different events. Each event allowed children to contribute points to go towards their overall House points.
Throughout the day there were some stand out performances. One of these brought many tears to eyes around the stadium. Mitch B found himself sprinting down the final 100m of his 800m race to a standing ovation, flanking on either side with SEDA students all yelling his name. For those that know Mitch you will understand how proud we all are of him to complete firstly in his racing chair in the 200m but then to run the 100m only to be courageous enough to battle it out in the 800m. Well done Mitch.
Many records came within cm’s of being broken but it was the Bews boys of Jed and Jackson who fell victim to the jumping talents of Tom D. Tom first decided in was time to put Jed Bews Triple Jump Record of 10 years to rest and have his name replace it. 20 minutes later he decided that one record was not enough to finish the day with and he eclipsed the record of Jackson Bews in the Long Jump which also stood for 10 years.
After 4 gruelling hours that included SEDA narrowing beating the teachers in the lunch time relay LAWSON were declared the 2012 Nathan Deakes House Athletic Sports Champions. A fine effort by all in Lawson house.
